UWSOM Program Information and Links

Health Sciences Library Description and Links

The University of Washington Health Sciences Libraries (HSL) have a large selection of information resources available for UW faculty, staff and students. For information on connecting to the library from off-campus, see http://healthlinks.washington.edu/howto/connect/

The HealthLinks Care Provider Toolkit at http://healthlinks.washington.edu/care_provider provides access to clinical resources for your UW precepting and clinical work. Advantages of using HealthLinks include direct access through PubMed to fulltext journal articles, collections of online textbooks, guidelines and evidence-based reviews of the literature, patient education websites, drugs and natural medicine references, and more. Download clinical resources for your PDA (in most cases will work for either Palm or Pocket PC).

A list of over 100 online health sciences textbooks can be found at http://healthlinks.washington.edu/textbooks/

An alphabetic list of electronic health sciences journals is available online through the UW at http://healthlinks.washington.edu/journals/

Fast retrieval of Adult Primary Care information, from resources including DynaMed, Clin-eguide, AccessMedicine, MD Consult, Micromedex, Clinical Evidence, TRIP, and more

PrimeAnswers, a website developed to help UW primary care providers find answers to patient-related questions at http://www.primeanswers.org/primeanswers/ allows searching of locally indexed evidence resources, such as FPIN Clinical Inquiries, JFP Applied Evidence, and the JAMA Rational Clinical Examination. PrimeAnswers includes:

  • Simple navigation to most used resources
  • Easy access to specific content for common conditions
  • Patient education handouts

PDA downloads licensed by HSL at http://healthlinks.washington.edu/howto/pda/

If the article you want is not from a journal available on HealthLinks, you may request a copy for a fee from HSL. To request via the Web, click on the “Order copies of articles or books" from the library services page: http://healthlinks.washington.edu/hsl/. There is funding for a number of free articles for WRITE students. When ordering, please indicate you are a “WWAMI student” in the “Special Instructions” Section on the ordering form (or you will be charged a fee).

If you have searched for information on Google without success or looked everywhere for an answer to a clinical, research or reference question? Contact HSL at http://healthlinks.washington.edu/hsl/contacts.html or the librarian liaison for WRITE, Sarah Safranek at http://healthlinks.washington.edu/hsl/liaisons/safranek/
