Nearly 600 persons have been arrested since the unrest began.

Protesters still occupy an abandoned apartment building at the 9th Avenue and Virginia Street.

U.S. Trade Representative Charlene Barchefsky and WTO Director-General Mike Moore announce the suspension of the Seattle round of talks by the WTO. The "time out," as Barchevsky calls it, will allow Moore to consult with the 135 members to try to bridge the remaining differences with the goal of reconvening the meeting of ministers at an unspecified date.

11:00 pm

One hundred protesters remain outside jail as negotiations continue with King County Executive Ron Sims. They demand food and medical care for prisoners, all demonstrators to be released, and the arrests erased from their criminal records.
