Unit-Specific UIF Awards in 1999-2000 The second round of the University Initiatives Fund (UIF2) includes a new component: the development, within colleges, schools, and administrative units, of proposals that further the units own strategic goals. Thus, in addition to the University-wide initiatives (see accompanying story for this years awards), there will be unit-specific initiatives, to be awarded in the 1999-2000 academic year. The unit-specific phase of UIF2 is now or soon will be under way within the colleges, schools and administrative units. Each dean, vice president, vice provost, and the director of libraries is eligible to submit one or more proposals for up to one third of the amount of the units 1percent contribution. Units will conduct their own selection processes and by Dec. 1 will submit their proposals to the Provost, who will evaluate them for quality, impact, and alignment with University goals. Please see UIF2 unit-specific guidelines as well as other UIF information on the Web at http://www.washington.edu/uif (under Strategies & Initiatives from the UW homepage). ¶ University Week The faculty and staff publication of the University of Washington uweek@u.washington.edu June 24, 1999
