Dr. Steven Gabbe, professor and chair of obstetrics and gynecology, was named president-elect of the American Gynecological and Obstetrical Society during the organization’s annual meeting earlier this month in San Diego. Gabbe will take office at the society’s 2001 annual meeting. The society was established in 1981 to promote research and education in obstetrics and gynecology. Its 200 members are nationally recognized academic leaders. The society supports a foundation that provides three-year research fellowships and co-sponsors the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology.

Jennifer Mas, program coordinator for SPARX, an interdisciplinary effort that places health sciences students in rural and underserved urban clinics to gain experience in working in such settings, has been named to the Seattle Commission for Human Rights. She is one of 15 commissioners. ¶
