KISS ME, DOUG: We won’t say he’s hogging the limelight, but UW staffer Doug Mathews is playing five — that’s right, five — roles in the current production of Kiss Me, Kate. Mathews, a School of Music administrator, first got stagestruck in high school and continued to tread the boards at community college. But that was 25 years ago, and he hadn’t ventured on stage again until last year, when he did a bit part in a UW opera. He had such a good time that he told Kate director Claudia Zahn he’d gladly take any unfilled walk-ons. She took him at his word, so Doug is playing a pizza delivery man, a cabbie, a monk, an orchestra member and a doctor. But with all those parts he only has one line. You know what they say, Doug: There are no small parts, only small actors. ¶
