About Us

The School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences (SAFS) at the University of Washington is dedicated to sustaining healthy freshwater and marine environments. Within SAFS is Columbia Basin Research (CBR; www.cbr.washington.edu), a research center that provides public data access and quantitative approaches to issues involving Salmon and Steelhead migrating through regulated river systems.

CBR consists of a group of a dozen employees dedicated to providing important data services and research to the region. We value our employees and promote their professional growth through education and experience.

About the position

Hourly wage: $25/hour

Hours per week: 10-19.5 hours

Start Date: 11 May 2026 or until filled

End date: 30 September 2026 (with possible extension)

Faculty/Lab Supervisor: Dr. Jennifer Gosselin <gosselin@uw.edu>

Primary responsibilities:

  •  Design styling of reports and other forms of written materials
  • Create graphics for scientific reports and other related written materials
  • Create graphics for timelines and diagrams for the web
  • Create mock-ups, communicate vision, and incorporate feedback
  • Apply digital accessibility standards to report templates/designs and graphics
  • Collaborate with Principal Investigator, Program Operations Specialist, Web Computing Specialist, Database Manager, and Researchers to better understand the work of CBR and the needs of our audiences
  • Participate in discussions in small group and lab meetings

Depending on duration of appointment, additional responsibilities may include:

  • Write and edit written and graphical materials for science communication to the public
  • Illustrate scientific information
  • Create videos for tutorials and science communication to the public
  • Collaborate with other staff to create video content: from conception, through storyboarding, and ultimately final product

Required skills:

  • Use of Adobe Creative Suite (incl. In Design, Premiere, Illustration) or similar software
  • Graphic design

Desired skills:

  • Video creation and editing
  • Human-centered design
  • Information architecture
