{"id":2941,"date":"2020-03-01T10:00:44","date_gmt":"2020-03-01T18:00:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/advis104\/?p=2941"},"modified":"2020-01-27T11:00:44","modified_gmt":"2020-01-27T19:00:44","slug":"the-vestibule-group-exhibition-call-for-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/advis104\/2020\/03\/01\/the-vestibule-group-exhibition-call-for-work\/","title":{"rendered":"The Vestibule Group Exhibition &#8211; Call For Work"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\"><strong>EXTRA Call for Art, Design &amp; Ornament <\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Due<\/strong> April 6th\u00a0 2020<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Exhibition<\/strong> Sept 12 \u2013 Nov 15th 2020<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><em>Bring something EXTRA\u2026. <\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>The Vestibule is accepting submissions for a group exhibition, EXTRA, September 12 &#8211; Nov 15th 2020. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>We invite submissions of art and design that play with ornament, excess \u2013 anything extra.<\/strong> Is ornament equivalent to excess? Is ornament a formal quality or can ornament be a characteristic of process? Does ornament belong to post-modernism? Romanticism? Craft? We invite contemporary art and design that addresses these questions. Submission may be art, design, craft, industrial design, graphic design, installation or any combination of these.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Visitors can spend the night in the Vestibule gallery via AirBnB. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>The gallery will select work that accommodates and plays with the our unique format that lets visitors spend the night in the gallery. <\/strong>We encourage submissions of work that can be incorporated into the interior design of the Air BnB gallery \u2013 even work that can be used and touched by guests. This work will be for sale to Air BnB guests and public visitors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">We encourage submissions from artists who identify as women, POC, Indigenous and LGBTQIA artists. The Vestibule has historically, though not exclusively, show 90% women\/LGBTQIA artists.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Application deadline is MONDAY APRIL 6th, 2020: 5:00pm (ish. we\u2019re human too)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>The Vestibule\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u00b7 encourages to visitors to spend time with art: whether by sitting on our couch or spending the night in the AirBnB,<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u00b7 provides a contemporary exhibition space for artists who are working outside the traditional commercial gallery<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u00b7 presents exhibitions that play with questions and concepts that cannot be easily addressed in traditional gallery formats<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u00b7\u00a0Work sample as jpeg, audio or video file.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u00b7\u00a0Submissions must be shared via Dropbox.com or Google drive. Please don\u2019t email files. JPEG no smaller than 1800 pixels on longest side at 72 dpi. For large videos, please send a link. Include year made, materials used, photo credit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u00b7\u00a0Artist statement about the piece and its context in the artist\u2019s body of work: 3-5 sentences max.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u00b7\u00a0Resume or CV and link to professional website or online presence. This document should not be a hurdle to application. The documents merely provide context for the curators.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>GENERAL EXHIBITION INFORMATION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The gallery will provide:<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 One 10 week group exhibition in our professional, non-commerical gallery, free of charge to the artist.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Weekly hours when the gallery is open to the public.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A loan agreement for the piece(s) of work displayed. Artists are responsible for sales and for shipping sold work.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Press releases and advertising through social media and possibly some local print listings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Beverages and snacks\u00a0for a public reception on the second Saturday of September in conjunction with the Ballard Art Walk.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">7.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The gallery does not provide insurance coverage for artwork or personal equipment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Curators have final say on the look, feel and installation of the exhibition. We ask that artists be open for constructive criticism during installation of any site specific work.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>EXHIBITION DATES <\/strong><br \/>\nSept 14 \u2013 October 10<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>DEADLINES for ARTISTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">April 6th Submissions due.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">May 1 Acceptances<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">May 15th Press information &#8211; final bio, statement &#8211; to gallery<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">August- Sept Regular promotion via social media<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">September 5th Work delivered to the gallery<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">September 5-10th Installation of any site-specific work<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Sept 12th 6-8 pm Opening<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Nov 17th Deinstall and shipment of work.
