A grand outdoor setting with the elegance of a fine art museum, the Museum boasts over 150 bonsai and the most diverse public collection in North America Part-time Garden\/Bonsai Assistant-16 hours per week, Friday and Saturday, 8:30 am-4:30pm. Hourly rate based on experience<\/p>\n<p>Key Functions:<br \/>\n\u2022 Routine care of bonsai, including watering, fertilizing, pest control, light pruning and general cleaning.<br \/>\n\u2022 Routine maintenance of bonsai display and work areas, including maintenance of traffic areas (raking and sweeping), exhibit and greenhouse cleaning, pruning and weeding in landscaped areas, including taking out trash and light general maintenance.<br \/>\n\u2022 Open and close facility, be responsible for safety and security of bonsai collection, facility and visitors when on duty.<br \/>\n\u2022 Operation of power equipment, gas powered utility carts, gas blowers, and power hand tools. \u2022 Conduct tours of the bonsai. Respond to inquiries and requests from visitors.<br \/>\n\u2022 Other duties as assigned.<br \/>\n\u2022 Seasonal facility maintenance, painting, pressure washing, cleaning gutters.<\/p>\n<p>Requirements:<br \/>\n\u2022 Associate (2 year) degree or trade school certificate in horticulture or related field or equivalent paid work experience.<br \/>\n\u2022 Ability to work weekends, holidays, attend weekly staff meeting via Zoom, work 3-4 annual all-staff special events, with flexibility to cover some staff vacation dates.<br \/>\n\u2022 Knowledge of the basic aspects of bonsai design and cultivation<br \/>\n\u2022 Ability to follow instructions, take initiative, work alone, and unsupervised.<br \/>\n\u2022 Ability to assume responsibility and respond effectively in emergencies<br \/>\n\u2022 Ability to repeatedly bend, stoop and climb<br \/>\n\u2022 Ability to work outdoors for extended periods, year-round<br \/>\n\u2022 Ability to lift 75 lbs. and carry 50lbs.<br \/>\n\u2022 Ability to use power equipment, leaf blower, etc.<br \/>\n\u2022 Valid Washington State Driver\u2019s License<br \/>\n\u2022 Excellent communication skills; public speaking skills desired<\/p>\n<p>Other info:<br \/>\nPreferred start date: October 19th, 2020<br \/>\nFirst two weeks of employment would require (M-F, 40 hour\/week) training period prior to starting normal schedule. <strong>Please submit cover letter, resume, and two references to <a href=\"mailto:careers@pacificbonsaimuseum.org\">careers@pacificbonsaimuseum.org<\/a> by October 2nd, 2020<\/strong>.
