The research seeks to defamiliarize the data by building creative representations situated in people\u2019s own homes. To navigate the obscure and interpretable nature of IoT data, we will collaborate with artists (fiction writers) to create workflows that translate domestic data logs into data narratives in the form of short stories (which we call: Data Epics). Those short stories will capitalize on the ways people understand complex situations and concepts through narrative structures.<\/p>\n<p>Candidates should have an interest in: Design research, the intersection between fiction and design, data, smart devices, and the internet of things (IoT).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities<\/strong>:<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Coordinate recruitment and hiring of fiction writers<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Coordinate recruitment of people living with Internet of Things devices<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Coordinate participatory design workshop with fiction writers<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Plan and prepare content for a workshop on data in IoT for fiction writers<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Book design and fabrication<\/p>\n<p><strong>Requirements:<\/strong><br \/>\nMasters students in Design or related fields. Masters of Design (MDes) students preferred.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Knowledge and skills:<\/strong><br \/>\nKnowledge of InDesign, Illustrator<br \/>\nBook design and layout<br \/>\nHigh level of proficiency in spoken and written English<br \/>\nAbility to research and simplify how Internet of Things data work (synthesize and communicate)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Salary:<\/strong><br \/>\nSalary and benefits are competitive.
