{"id":4514,"date":"2021-04-16T08:58:50","date_gmt":"2021-04-16T15:58:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/advis104\/?p=4514"},"modified":"2021-04-16T08:58:50","modified_gmt":"2021-04-16T15:58:50","slug":"waesn-youth-art-contest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/advis104\/2021\/04\/16\/waesn-youth-art-contest\/","title":{"rendered":"WAESN Youth Art Contest"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\">WAESN is looking for <b>visual art created from any medium<\/b> as long as it can be uploaded to our website as a high resolution digital image <b>that represents (1) our vision statement and (2) helps us visualize how the WAESN\u00a0Visual Arts Education Team define &#8220;Action and Reflection&#8221;<\/b> in a liberated visual arts curriculum.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><u>Vision Statement<\/u><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><i>Ethnic Studies in every classroom of Washington State taught by anti-racist educators committed\u00a0to centering the history and lives experiences of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color.<\/i><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><u>Action and Reflection<\/u><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><i>Action and Reflection in visual arts, as defined by ethnic studies, are the humanizing ways in which artists interpret, respond to, and engage\u00a0with visual cultures around them. This includes (1) <b>cultivating a personal sense of empowerment and advocacy for justice <\/b>and (2) <b>engaging in art-making as a healing process in the greater community and within ourselves<\/b>.
