The issue\u2019s intention is to show both care &amp; dependency as complex aspects of human history &amp; our current, contemporary, cultural world. In what ways are care &amp; dependency visible or invisible? In what ways are care &amp; dependency present in the arts, either visually or within the overall artistic sphere?<\/p>\n<p>We encourage interdisciplinary submissions &amp; would love to publish a diverse set of essays so long as they relate to care &amp; dependency &amp; art\/art history.<\/p>\n<p>Examples of research topics include, but are not limited to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Politics of care &amp; dependency in contemporary art<\/li>\n<li>The imagery of care &amp; dependency through the work of a specific artist, collective, or movement<\/li>\n<li>The role of care &amp; dependency in various sectors of the arts<\/li>\n<li>The various definitions of care &amp; dependency\u00a0in an art or art historical context<\/li>\n<li>Performance art, sound art, painting, sculpture, photography, film, printmaking, digital art, dance, theater, etc.<\/li>\n<li>The role of care &amp; dependency in chronic illness, gender, sexuality, race, physical (dis)ability, &amp;\/or culture in art<\/li>\n<li>The differences or similarities between care &amp; dependency seen in the public vs. private spheres<\/li>\n<li>Architecture or installation as a site for care &amp; dependency<\/li>\n<li>Elements of care &amp; dependency in art including, but also existing outside of, the parent\/child relationship, romantic partnerships, governing &amp; governed bodies, the medical profession, &amp; more<\/li>\n<li>Care &amp; dependency as it relates to labor<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Femme Sal\u00e9e publishes a scholarly art journal once per year online, rooted in well-researched work that engages with the history &amp;\/or theory of art &amp; culture. Our annual issues include, but are not limited to, art historical essays, theoretical essays, research-based digital artworks, exhibition reviews, artist or curator interviews, literature, research-based performances, &amp; curated exhibitions. Issues are devoted to the collaborative production of knowledge around specific concerns related to human experiences such as pain, (dis)ability, care, &amp; dependency. Art practice, criticism, history, &amp; theory are most important to us,\u00a0but we seek to assemble a multidisciplinary journal that may include topics at the intersection of \u201cthe arts\u201d &amp; other disciplines: the visual arts, auditory arts, digital arts, performance &amp; choreography, photography, museum studies, literary criticism, (dis)ability studies, gender &amp; women\u2019s studies, religious studies, medicine, international studies, &amp; more.<\/p>\n<p>Please submit a 500-word proposal as a PDF, accompanied by a 100-word bio, to <a href=\"mailto:femmesalee@gmail.com\">femmesalee@gmail.com<\/a> by Friday, March 25, 2022, at midnight MT. Applicants will receive an email notification no later than Friday, April 15, 2022.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Author guidelines<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>For publication consistency, we ask that authors follow the Chicago Manual of Style.\u00a0Essay lengths should be in the range of\u00a03,000 to 4,000 words (excluding footnotes\/bibliography). Interview &amp; review lengths should be in the range of 1,000 to 2,000 words (excluding footnotes\/bibliography).
