{"id":5930,"date":"2022-07-22T08:42:13","date_gmt":"2022-07-22T15:42:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/advis104\/?p=5930"},"modified":"2022-07-22T08:42:13","modified_gmt":"2022-07-22T15:42:13","slug":"inscape-arts-2023-residency-accepting-applications","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/advis104\/2022\/07\/22\/inscape-arts-2023-residency-accepting-applications\/","title":{"rendered":"Inscape Arts 2023 Residency &#8211; Accepting Applications"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"et_pb_row et_pb_row_2 et_pb_row_3-4_1-4\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_column et_pb_column_3_4 et_pb_column_2  et_pb_css_mix_blend_mode_passthrough\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_module et_pb_text et_pb_text_3  et_pb_text_align_left et_pb_bg_layout_light\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_text_inner\">\n<p>The Inscape Artist-in-Residence program provides artists with a dynamic cultural and historic location to engage with community, research, and develop new work and ideas at the Inscape Arts Building \u2013 an art studio building in the\u00a0 former immigration and detention center in Seattle\u2019s Chinatown-International District.<\/p>\n<p>Presented by the Friends of Inscape, the residency features a free work-only space for one artist or artist-team for 10 weeks.\u00a0 Depending on the goals of selected artists, they have the opportunity to hold workshops, talks, exhibitions, and receive studio visits from curators or artist mentors.<\/p>\n<p>Four artists per year are selected.\u00a0 This selection cycle for residencies begins in January 2023. The selection committee includes representatives from the Inscape Community and a representative from the Wing Luke Asian Art Museum, as well as regional arts organizations that intersect with ethnic and immigrant communities. The committee seeks thoughtful and compelling applications of high quality work\u00a0 and values applications that convey engagement with the historic immigrantion building and the surrounding diverse neighborhood.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"et_pb_column et_pb_column_1_4 et_pb_column_3  et_pb_css_mix_blend_mode_passthrough et-last-child\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_module et_pb_text et_pb_text_4  et_pb_text_align_left et_pb_bg_layout_light\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_text_inner\">\n<h5>DEADLINE: Friday, September 16th, 2022<\/h5>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3 class=\"et_pb_button_module_wrapper et_pb_button_0_wrapper  et_pb_module \"><a class=\"et_pb_button et_pb_button_0 et_pb_bg_layout_dark\" href=\"http:\/\/inscapearts.org\/residency-program-old\/artist-in-residence-application\/\">Application<\/a><\/h3>\n<div class=\"et_pb_module et_pb_text et_pb_text_5  et_pb_text_align_left et_pb_bg_layout_light\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"et_pb_row et_pb_row_3\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_column et_pb_column_1_2 et_pb_column_4  et_pb_css_mix_blend_mode_passthrough\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_module et_pb_text et_pb_text_7  et_pb_text_align_left et_pb_bg_layout_light\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_text_inner\">\n<p><b>The residency is open<\/b>\u00a0to all artists by application.\u00a0We are currently accepting applications for the 2023 residency period, running from January 2023-December 2023.\u00a0In honor of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/inscapearts.org\/about\/\">history of the building<\/a>, minorities, immigrants, and underrepresented populations are strongly encouraged to apply.<\/p>\n<p><b>Residency dates will be:<\/b><br \/>\nJanuary 11- March 22,\u00a0 2023<br \/>\nApril 17 \u2013 July 26, 2023<br \/>\nSeptember 7- November 16, 2023<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>The Studio Spaces:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Siquina Space (Space 1):\u00a0<\/b>Approx. 17 x 22 feet, white drywall walls, concrete floor, no windows) on the first floor of Inscape.\u00a0 Great space for artists working with low light, sound, and technology. Also doubles as a gallery featuring track lighting.<\/li>\n<li><b>Space 2<\/b>:\u00a0 Approx. 400sf, window with northern light. This is\u00a0 a good space for artists that require natural light and\/or are working with more traditional media due to better ventilation.<\/li>\n<li>Both spaces are for\u00a0 studio-only residencies \u2013 not live\/work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Exhibition &amp; Community Engagement:<\/b>\u00a0 Depending on health guidelines artists will be given opportunities to engage with the community (in-person or online), exhibit artwork, and\/or participate in Open House events.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"et_pb_column et_pb_column_1_2 et_pb_column_5  et_pb_css_mix_blend_mode_passthrough et-last-child\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_module et_pb_text et_pb_text_8  et_pb_text_align_left et_pb_bg_layout_light\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_text_inner\">\n<p><b>Selection Process<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Residencies will be awarded to artists who submit thoughtful, compelling and relevant applications that consist of high quality work.\u00a0 Inscape is a large community of diverse artists in a former Immigration and Naturalization Service building (on the National Register of Historic Places) in the Chinatown International District.\u00a0 We value applications that display engagement with the Inscape artist community, the historic INS building and\/or the CID community.<\/p>\n<p><b>Residency Requirements<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Artists are expected to work onsite for a minimum of 10 hours a week for the duration of the residency period.<\/p>\n<p>Artists are responsible for their own materials.<\/p>\n<p>Artists may choose to have an engagement with the public and Inscape community. (Example: this could be an exhibition, performance, artist talk, and\/or workshop.)
