The On-Call Preparator \/ Art Handler is a temporary, part-time position. The position is most active during installation and de-installation of museum exhibitions. This position works as part of a team in Exhibitions, as well as closely with staff from other departments and outside contractors.<\/p>\n<p>STATUS: Part-time, on-call; FLSA non-exempt; non-benefitted<\/p>\n<p>STARTING RATE: $22 \u2013 $25 per hour, depending on experience<\/p>\n<p>SCHEDULE: Tuesday \u2013 Friday; Current expected work dates are:<br \/>\n\u2022 June 27 \u2013 July 21<br \/>\n\u2022 August 22 \u2013 October 18<br \/>\nAdditional work dates to be determined<\/p>\n<p>REPORTS TO: Head Preparator<\/p>\n<p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:<br \/>\n\u2022 Assist team in the preparation, installation, and de-installation of objects for exhibitions, including matting and framing, and construction of mounts<br \/>\n\u2022 Assist in construction of housing for art objects<br \/>\n\u2022 Assist in the processes of proper art handling methods, and art storage practices<br \/>\n\u2022 Preparing gallery spaces for art installation<br \/>\n\u2022 Performs additional duties as assigned<\/p>\n<p>This position frequently lifts or otherwise handles large and sometimes heavy objects, operates construction tools, and operates heavy machinery.<\/p>\n<p>QUALIFICATIONS:<br \/>\nRequired<br \/>\n\u2022 Demonstrated experience (typically a minimum of 2 years) handling art, preferably in a museum setting<br \/>\n\u2022 Experience with handling, installing, and mounting a variety of 2-dimenstional and 3-dimensional art objects<br \/>\n\u2022 Experience in the safe operation and maintenance of a variety of hand and power tools<br \/>\n\u2022 Ability to read and follow diagrams and schematics<br \/>\n\u2022 Must be able to work collaboratively within a team, work independently when given a task, and possess a willingness to learn new art handling skills and techniques<br \/>\n\u2022 Must be flexible, detail-oriented, with excellent communication skills<\/p>\n<p>Desired<br \/>\n\u2022 Knowledge of installation materials and techniques and fine art packing<br \/>\n\u2022 Experience in the safe operation and maintenance of a variety of hand and power tools, hydraulic lifts, and fork and scissor lifts<br \/>\n\u2022 Experience preparing and painting gallery walls<br \/>\n\u2022 Basic woodworking skills is a plus<\/p>\n<p>BENEFITS: This position is non-benefited.
