To serve our region, we bridge the past, present, and future by collecting, preserving, and sharing stories through compelling, innovative exhibits and community engagement.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Position Title:<\/strong>\u00a0Temporary Oral History Specialist<br \/>\n<strong>Reports to:<\/strong>\u00a0Library Collections Manager<br \/>\n<strong>Location:<\/strong>\u00a0MOHAI McQuaid Resource Center at Georgetown<br \/>\n<strong>Classification:<\/strong>\u00a0Temporary; Non-exempt; Part-time; Hourly<br \/>\n<strong>Schedule:<\/strong>\u00a0Weekdays, approx. 15 hours per week<br \/>\n<strong>Rate of Pay:<\/strong>\u00a0$22-$23 per hour<br \/>\n<strong>Benefits:<\/strong>\u00a0Paid Sick and Safe Time in accordance with the City of Seattle ordinance<br \/>\n<strong>Employment Period:<\/strong>\u00a0June \u2013 October 2024 (exact start date flexible \u2013 maximum 250 hours total)<\/p>\n<h3>Position Description:<\/h3>\n<p>The Temporary Oral History Specialist will participate in a maximum 250-hour 4Culture-funded project to transcribe 35 digitized oral histories and will create a procedure to be used during this project and for future transcripts. The selection of oral histories to be transcribed will prioritize those from identities historically marginalized in the historic narrative. The procedure includes identifying a text-to-audio AI tool to generate rough drafts and updating MOHAI\u2019s oral history transcript editorial guide. This position reports to the Library Collections Manager and is a member of the Collections Resources department.<\/p>\n<h3>Key Responsibilities:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Select oral histories for transcription, with support from the Library Collections Manager, based on institutional priorities for elevating stories of those previously marginalized and founded in community evaluation feedback.<\/li>\n<li>Identify a low or no-cost audio-to-text AI tool to generate rough drafts of transcripts.<\/li>\n<li>Update MOHAI\u2019s editorial guide for oral history transcripts and apply these guidelines to create 35 final transcripts.<\/li>\n<li>Refine and document the procedures for creating transcripts so that staff working with future volunteers can replicate and generate more transcripts.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure that all interactions are culturally responsive, respectful, and based on a foundation of MOHAI\u2019s commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility.<\/li>\n<li>Other duties as assigned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Qualifications:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Bachelor\u2019s degree or equivalent museum or oral history collection work experience. Position may be suitable for current information sciences student nearing graduation or recent graduate; however, candidate must have required skills, as position is not an internship.<\/li>\n<li>Previous experience with creating transcripts for oral histories required; experience with or knowledge of current best practices in oral histories preferred.<\/li>\n<li>Experience working with oral histories or archival collections documenting the stories of historically marginalized communities preferred.<\/li>\n<li>Experience working with audio-to-text AI preferred.<\/li>\n<li>Previous process documentation and\/or editorial experience required.<\/li>\n<li>Experience working collaboratively with colleagues.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.<\/li>\n<li>Enthusiasm for MOHAI\u2019s exhibits, collections, programs, and mission.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Find yourself checking many of these boxes but doubting whether you should apply?
