Pleasure[…] and intimacy with ourselves and others can be both healing and powerful” (brown, 2019).

comfi.space is a call to showcase a new sense of familiarity and hope that queer kinship and pleasure brings and create new connections through radical imagination and care. We encourage artists to channel memories, whether in current or past relationships (platonic, familial, etc) into spatial and visual interpretations that are reminiscent of spaces that we find liberation through queer pleasure/intimacy. We urge artists to explore new sensory/tactile methods to encapsulate the essence of these spaces. Ultimately, we want to uncover what queer pleasure and intimacy can look like and be imagined as, as well as experiment new ways of engaging the audience through feeling like incorporating spatial and tactile mediums. I want to also note that this is not limited to romantic pleasure and intimacy.

This exhibit transforms everyday living room objects into memories of queer pleasure, represented by the featured artists’ pieces. Some questions artists can ponder: How does radical pleasure transform the way we see ordinary spaces in our lives? What feelings does it evoke? How can this piece serve as evidence that our pleasure once existed in this space?

This call is open to artists of all mediums, of all experience levels, with priority given to queer emerging artists of color.

A Pinterest board has also been created to help spark ideas: https://pin.it/5sgjgtpNa

Guest curated by: Ashley Wang

Important Dates:

Submissions due by: Sunday, October 20th, 11:59pm

Artists Notified: Wednesday evening, October 23rd

Artwork drop off dates: 10/24 – 10/27 TBD

Opening Reception: Friday, November 1st, 2024 6:00 – 8:00pm

Closing Reception & Artist Panel: Thursday, November 21st, 2024 5:00 – 8:00 pm

Artwork pick up dates: 11/29-12/6 TBD

To Submit:

Submit your work here.

Submit your $15 submission fee here.

Submit by October 20th, 2024 Artist Call: comfi.space November 2024 “Pleasure is a pathway for accessing sexual liberation, and pleasure activism is a means to resist the heteronormative, traditionally gendered narrative.
