Demographics: Community Population
§Younger
§Better ADLs
§Less severe level of retardation
§Mental health issues: depression
§Nutritional issues: obesity
Adults with DD who have have grown up in their community are likely, on average, to be younger and have fewer and less severe medical and mental health issues than those who may have lived in an institution for a time and are now in a group home.  Mild levels of retardation are common and mental health diagnoses are more likely to include depression.  For a variety of reasons, obesity is a common finding in the community population.
