¨May need anti-anxiety, conscious sedation or general anesthesia to perform
¨Consider mobility issues
¨Behavioral interventions using pictures, developmentally appropriate language may be useful for preparation
Client may be in a wheel chair or have orthotics.  This is a situation where if a pap or pelvic is indicated,  a separate desensitization/education session may have to be used.  Use of pictures, videotapes, letting the client handle the speculum or even practice getting in the stirrups may help with getting a good exam without causing a lot of distress for the patient (Prevatt, 1998)
