Few things are more distressing than to hear the cry of a child in pain. It often leaves parents and caregivers with feelings of helplessness and despair to recognize that a child is suffering. In addition, recent studies have shown that untreated pain in children can have lasting physiological and psychological effects that may create difficulties for years to come.
Seattle Children's has been a leader in the field of pain management for infants, children and adolescents since our program began in 1985. Our interdisciplinary service provides an array of pain control options, such as state-of-the-art procedures for pain, analgesic medications, including patient-controlled analgesic pumps, self-regulation of pain, chronic pain rehabilitation, and complementary and alternative approaches, such as acupuncture.
Our team includes anesthesiologists, psychologists, nurses, and physical and occupational therapists who specialize in pain management for children. Because pain is caused by a wide range of conditions, we work with experts in nearly all of Children's clinical programs and we are committed to collaborating with specialists involved in the care of your child. We also work closely with you, your child, and your child's primary healthcare providers to develop a treatment plan that addresses your child and family's specific needs.
