We are interested in <strong>bacteria and archaea <\/strong>because they are <strong>critical to the cycling of nutrients in the oceans<\/strong>. We study these microorganisms in the laboratory and in the environment, <strong>combining cultivation based approaches and molecular biology to better understand their contribution to the cycling of nutrients in marine ecosystems.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is also one of the <strong>core faculty for Interactive Oceans<\/strong>, an initiative involving universities throughout the country that will <strong>encircle entire tectonic plates along the west coast of North America with fiber-optic cables and other massive instrumentation, providing high-quality, real-time data.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Morris\u2019 laboratory is located in the School of Oceanography at the University of Washington.
