Izzie Lewis

Izzie Lewis is a Seattle milliner with a reputation for finely designed and crafted hats. Susan Phinney, of the Seattle Times, characterizes her work as “so beautifully made it could be worn inside out.”

Formally trained as an architect, Izzie began the transition to milliner in 1988 under the tutelage of noted milliner Wayne Wichern. Mingling architectural influences with a love for textiles, Izzie’s hats are distinguished by precise construction, attention to detail, unique use of materials, and a sense of innovation, geometry, and purity. Her work is included in the permanent collections at the Museum of History and Industry, Seattle and the Fine Art Museums of San Francisco, deYoung Museum.

For sixteen years, Izzie has been sharing her broad knowledge of the art by teaching millinery through the Experimental College at the University of Washington. A number of her students have gone on to millinery careers of their own.
