Kelly McMahon began directing in 2004 during her Masters study at the University of Pittsburgh. From the first, she has been staging work in site-specific locations and takes special care in choosing a story that perfect matches a venue. Receiving a second Masters degree from the National University of Ireland – Galway, she continued to establish herself as “an intelligent and inventive theatrical talent”. Her adaptation, Hamlet & Ophelia (set in the Victoria Hotel Nightclub) was nominated for Best Production and received the Best Director Award at the city’s Project ’06 Arts Festival. Her work has been performed in sites as varied as a yoga studio and 13th Century Episcopal Church. Her most recent Seattle production was The Faithfull, a new rock musical featuring the music of Pearl Jam, which premiered at Benaroya Hall in December 2013.
Along with her artistic work, Kelly has extensive experience in all aspects of theatre production and administration, working in various roles for professional organizations such as Pittsburgh Irish & Classical Theatre, The Town Hall Theatre (Galway), An Taibhdhearc na Gallimhe (the national Irish language theatre), and Collaboraction (Chicago). She also helmed the historic Academy Theatre (Meadville, PA) as Managing Director.
