Carla Barragan is an Ecuadorian dancer, choreographer and educator who has been faculty at Arts Corps and Velocity Dance Studio teaching dance, and is also a Pilates/Yoga instructor. Barragan has been presenting her choreography with her company BQdanza in several festivals and self produced concerts in North and South America since 1990 and receiving funding from Washington States’ major art grants providers. Her work has been commissioned by the Seattle International Children’s Festival, the National Dance Company in Ecuador and UDLA Danza in Puebla, Mexico. Ms. Barragan was a visiting professor at Universidad de las Americas in Puebla, Mexico from 2000 to 2002. Before coming to Seattle, where she officially resides, she was a professor and coordinator of Performing Arts at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito, Ecuador, 1995-1998. In 1993 she received an MA in Dance Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, where she also taught for a year as an adjunct instructor, and in 1990 a BFA in dance from SUNY Purchase, NY. Mrs. Barragán now teaches full time in the public schools, teaching theatre.
