What Do We Do in the Lab?

In our lab, we do genetic research by analyzing DNA from individuals and families. We collect blood or other tissue and look at the DNA inside the cells.

In our current projects, we look for mutations, or changes, in the DNA that cause a variety of birth defects including limb malformations and congenital heart defects.

In another study, we are investigating how genetic variation among people influences an individual's susceptibility to infectious disease.

We are also interested in studying how different populations vary genetically for a number of other traits.
