About this Event

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction is an 8-week evidence-based, highly participatory program which includes: 

  • Guided instruction in mindfulness meditation practices
  • Gentle stretching and mindful movement
  • Inquiry exercises to enhance awareness in everyday life
  • Mindful communication and group dialogue
  • Home practices to apply class learning to daily life

Research on MBSR consistently demonstrates positive outcomes for a wide variety of challenges including highly stressful work or family circumstances, sleep disturbances, anxiety, depression and chronic pain. This class can support you in:

  • Activating inner resources for coping with stress and daily challenges
  • Discovering patterns of mind and their relationship with well-being
  • Enhancing compassion and a sense of ease

Attitudes of kindness, openness and patience provide a foundation for the practices of sustained focus, self-regulation and self-exploration with each week centering on a theme to support the individualized application of mindfulness to daily life. 

Weekly themes:

Class 1: Introduction to MBSR and experiential application of mindful awareness
Class 2: Dealing with stress, barriers and difficulties in a new way
Class 3: The power of being present
Class 4: Patterns of stress reactivity and the importance of perception
Class 5: Coping patterns and the differences between responding and reacting
Class 6: Interpersonal and relational mindfulness
Class 7: Integrating and personalizing mindfulness into daily life
Class 8: Taking your learning forward 

All Day Retreat: An exploration of cultivating presence from moment to moment

This class is an opportunity to explore how mindfulness may support you in living life more fully, with greater ease and resilience. Eight-week live online course
Wednesdays, September 30 – November 18, 2020, from 6:00 – 8:30 pm
Retreat: Saturday, November 7, 2020, from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

Register for a Certificate of Completion and get CEUs. Our CEUs are available for licensed psychologistsmarriage and family therapistsmental health counselors, and social workers in Washington State. We cannot guarantee that these CEUs will be accepted in other states.

About the Presenter

Becca Calhoun, MPH

As training and evaluation specialist, Becca works with the CCFW team to create, deliver and evaluate mindfulness and compassion-based programs as well as working on research projects that support the well-being of families and providers. She previously managed the NEW Moms Connect study, which included conducting mindfulness and self-compassion interventions for pregnant and postpartum women facing economic adversity. Her previous experience includes research and non-profit management, the development and facilitation of specialized mindfulness programs for trauma survivors, 9-1-1 dispatchers and parents in the perinatal period. She has worked extensively in paid and volunteer positions to promote and support the well-being of incarcerated pregnant women, first responders, LGBTQI+, immigrant/refugee and indigenous communities.

Becca holds a BA in International Development and Geography from Clark University and a Master’s in Public Health from the University of Washington with graduate certificates in Maternal and Child Health and International Health. She is trained in both Mindfulness-Based Childbirth & Parenting and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and has been teaching mindfulness classes for over 10 years. In addition to her work at CCFW, she serves as faculty for the Mindful Birthing and Parenting Foundation, providing training and mentoring for new mindfulness teachers.
