About this Event

Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) is a scientifically-based and effective program designed to cultivate self-kindness and improve well-being. It was developed by psychologists – Drs. Kristen Neff and Chris Germer.  Research shows that self-compassion significantly enhances emotional well-being (less anxiety and depression), boosts resilience, happiness, harmonious relationships, and can even help maintain healthy lifestyles such as healthy eating and exercise. For many of us, self-criticism is a familiar driving force to do better and succeed. Yet, research shows the opposite: self compassion (self-kindness) is a healthier and productive way to motivate ourselves than self-criticism.

We are offering a shorter online program (1.5 hour weekly classes for 6 weeks). Classes will be small (16 or less) and include short talks, experiential exercises, interactive group discussion, and home practices. You’ll learn to develop habits of being kinder to ourselves and others especially during times of stress, and live with more ease and well-being in daily life. Our goal is to promote the direct, personal experience of self-compassion and to provide on-the-spot skills to bring it into everyday life. 

No experience with mindfulness or meditation is required.

During these difficult times of continuing pandemic, and much social upheavals, these approaches and skills may be ever more helpful.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

Register for a Certificate of Completion and get CEUs. Our CEUs are available for licensed psychologistsmarriage and family therapistsmental health counselors, and social workers in Washington State. We cannot guarantee that these CEUs will be accepted in other states.

Elizabeth H. B. Lin MD, MPH

Elizabeth is passionate about teaching mindfulness and self-compassion and is a Certified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Certified Mindfulness Self-Compassion (MSC)  Teacher.  Elizabeth was introduced to mindfulness through scientific research in 2000, and has trained directly with the founders of MBSR and MSC. She weaves mindfulness with self-compassion and loving kindness in teaching her courses. Elizabeth has had a daily meditation practice for more than 27 years.

A graduate of Stanford Medical School, Elizabeth has been a family medicine physician for many years, as well as a mental health researcher focusing on improving mind-body health in general medical settings.  She is a Clinical Professor at University of Washington School of Medicine. Elizabeth is enthusiastic about bringing scientifically proven mindfulness and compassion programs to people from diverse backgrounds.  Over the past 10 years, witnessing the transformative experiences of participants in her classes has inspired Elizabeth to continue teach these courses and facilitate growth and blossoming in the participants.
