Project Summary
Health Care Professional In-Service Training Project
The Center on Human Development and Disability, located at the University of Washington, has been funded by the Developmental Disability Council (DDC) to develop curriculum and training modules for health care professionals addressing the health care needs of adults with developmental disabilities. The DDC is a federally funded nonprofit organization of consumers representing the interests of individuals with developmental disabilities in the state of Washington.
We are currently in the first year of this three-year project. Prior to developing the health care professional curriculum and training, we are surveying physicians, family members of adults with developmental disabilities, self-advocates, and residential service providers, to better understand the current status of service delivery to individuals with disabilities in Washington State. The focus of the survey is to identify respondents’ perceptions of barriers that could be minimized and potentially useful actions that could be expanded through pre-service or in-service training opportunities.
In an effort to reach a statewide sample of physicians, we would like the opportunity to display a poster describing our project and distribute a survey to any physician attending the WSMA annual meeting who shows an interest. The survey is short and anonymous; a copy is attached for your review.
