2021 Keynote Speaker:

Betti Fujikado, UW ’77, could be considered a serial co-founder, starting with the 23-year-old Seattle advertising agency Copacino Fujikado, partnering with Jim Copacino. CF has served clients such as the Seattle Mariners, Seattle Children’s Hospital, Premera Blue Cross, Symetra, Seattle Aquarium, REI, and Chateau Ste. Michelle. She is currently co-founder of Success Cohorts with Carla Corkern, a coaching and community building company serving traditionally underrepresented groups, providing a place of belonging and support for professionals in the first few years of their careers. Its first program serves first-generation college graduates, partnering with College Success Foundation, a 21-year-old national nonprofit helping underserved, low-income students achieve their dream of a college education. In September 2021, Success Cohorts/Parents will launch with Goodwin Connections, a nonprofit founded as the Milk Fund in 1907 connecting families to educational opportunities that build financial stability and create generational change.

Betti has also conceived and partnered on social impact projects in the past two years since moving from CEO to co-founder at Copacino Fujikado. The first involved partnering with Mimi Gan gathering the support of the six Seattle professional sports teams in a grassroots outreach to communities of color called Seattle Unite’s Democracy Cup. The Democracy Cup encouraged completion of the 2020 Census and voting by communities of color who typically respond in lower numbers. Her most recent collaboration with four other AAPI womxn, Our Stories Are Your Stories in May 2021, is a celebration of AAPI Heritage Month. Its purpose is to encourage dialogue instead of divisiveness, humanity instead of animosity, with personal stories by AAPI notables such as Dr. Vin Gupta, Lana Condor, Yuji Okumoto, and Doug Baldwin, among others. DIY videos by the AAPI community are also encouraged through social media and all videos can be accessioned in the Wing Luke Museum’s oral history archives as a first-person account of this moment in time for all AAPIs.

Betti has been a Trustee at Western Washington University, a Puget Sound Business Journal Woman of Influence, one of “50 Outstanding Asian Americans in Business” recognized by the Asian American Business Development Center, and a winner of Seattle’s American Advertising Foundation Silver Award, its highest honor. As the daughter of Japanese parents incarcerated during World War II, Betti uses her voice to promote diversity in the Seattle business community.

She is a proud graduate of the University of Washington in 1977 and has been a Foster School of Business MBA mentor for the past 7 years.
