The UW/Fred Hutch Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) and UW BIRCH (Behavioral Research Center for HIV) announce the availability of supplement funding in support of the Ending the HIV Epidemic: A Plan for America (EHE) Initiative, through the 2023 EHE CFAR/ARC Supplement Notice of Special Interest. See the CFAR-ARC EHE Supplement Announcement for more information. Research topics are as follows:

The UW/Fred Hutch CFAR and UW BIRCH are limited to each submitting a maximum of three applications for topics 1-4 and one application each for topics 5 and 6; therefore we are conducting an internal concept proposal competition to determine which applications will go forward for full submission to the NIH. Below are instructions for submitting concept proposals for this opportunity. Please note that a Center may apply for topics 5 and 6 but the Center that is selected as the CCDMC will be ineligible to receive funding for an RCH, if both applications are meritorious. Contact LTN128@uw.edu with questions.
For inquiries on whether a concept proposal is more geared towards the CFAR or the BIRCH, please contact Susan Mello to strategize at spmello@uw.edu.
PLEASE SUBMIT CONCEPT PROPOSALS ELECTRONICALLY IN ONE FILE (MS Word or Adobe PDF) TO LTN128@uw.edu by Monday, February 6, 11:59pm PT, including:
- Cover letter with the submission Center (CFAR or BIRCH), title of proposed project (maximum of 81 characters), EHE Pillar(s) addressed by the proposal, name and contact information of Project Director, and a table listing the key personnel to participate in the proposed project, including the following information: Names, degrees, institutional affiliations, and roles in project.
- Description of proposal (limit one page, Arial 11 font or equivalent) including:
- Brief paragraph describing background and rationale
- Specific Aims
- Brief paragraph about research strategy, implementation research logic model (if applicable), and primary outcomes
- Brief description of community partnership (e.g., is this an existing partnership, would the partnership be a good fit for this opportunity, and will the community partner be actively engaged in designing the proposal, if the concept is selected).
- How the proposal addresses local EHE gaps and priorities, and how this project adds value by addressing one or more of the 4 EHE pillars.
- NIH-formatted Biosketch of the Project Director
- Brief description of budget by cost category (salaries, benefits, supplies, equipment, travel, other services, subcontracts). Be sure that the aims of the proposal can be achieved with the given budget. Refer to the NIH Grants Policy Statement regarding allowable and unallowable costs. Please note that subcontract indirect costs are allowable and do not count towards the direct cost limit.
(Please carefully review the full announcement linked below for more details.)
After selection of the finalists, full proposals (research plan can be in draft form; budget must be final) are due by Friday, March 17, and research plan must be final by Monday, March 27. Full applications will be submitted to NIH by the UW/Fred Hutch CFAR or UW BIRCH.
Please contact LTN128@uw.edu with any questions and forward this on to any investigators who you think might be eligible.
