CFAR New Faces Seminar: Christine Johnston, MD, MPH: Daily genital sampling to disentangle the association between HSV-2 and bacterial vaginosis

Dr. Johnston is a physician-scientist who studies the pathogenesis of genital herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2)infection, with the ultimate goal of identifying interventions that will improve genital health.  Of specific interest is the mechanism by which  HSV-2 reactivation increases the risk of genital co-infections, such as HIV and bacterial vaginosis.  Dr. Johnston will discuss her ongoing study exploring how HSV-2 influences the vaginal microbiome in the female genital tract.
