{"id":1749,"date":"2022-10-20T13:10:47","date_gmt":"2022-10-20T20:10:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/cfas\/?page_id=1749"},"modified":"2022-12-08T11:56:56","modified_gmt":"2022-12-08T19:56:56","slug":"consultation-for-suspected-gonorrhea-treatment-failures-specimen-submission","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/cfas\/washington-state-antimicrobial-resistant-gonococcal-infection-argc-center-of-excellence\/consultation-for-suspected-gonorrhea-treatment-failures-specimen-submission\/","title":{"rendered":"Consultation for Suspected Gonorrhea Treatment Failures &#038; Specimen Submission"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"uw-accordion-shortcode\">\n<div class=\"js-accordion\" data-accordion-prefix-classes=\"uw-accordion-shortcode\">\n<div class=\"js-accordion__panel\" >\n<h2 class=\"js-accordion__header\"><strong>When to suspect a gonorrhea treatment failure?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Suspected treatment failures are:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Persons with symptomatic gonococcal infections whose symptoms do not resolve in 3-5 days following treatment and report no sexual contact following treatment, and<\/li>\n<li>Persons with a positive test of cure (TOC) by culture &gt;72 hours after treatment when no sexual contact is reported between treatment and TOC.\u00a0 **Note, PHSKC does not recommend routine test of cure.\u00a0 TOC are recommended when:\n<ul>\n<li>alternative drugs are used, particularly when used for pharyngeal gonorrhea, and<\/li>\n<li>in pregnant persons<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"js-accordion__panel\" >\n<h2 class=\"js-accordion__header\"><strong>What to do if you suspect a gonorrhea treatment failure?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Contact us!
