The mission for the Center is to prevent transmission of HIV and other sexually transmitted infection, and to reduce human suffering caused by these infections.<\/p>\n

To pursue this mission, the Center represents the UW in supervising the Pacific Northwest region’s largest AIDS and STD clinical, training, and education programs, in concert with UW and affiliated hospitals and the Seattle-King County Department of Public Health, providing direct support for basic and clinical research and international technical assistance through its federally funded centers for research and technical assistance. In addition, the Center coordinates AIDS and STD related clinical, research, and prevention activities.<\/p>\n

The Center coordinates all research, training and clinical programs on HIV\/AIDS and STD at the University of Washington, and various UW sponsored international AIDS and STD activities in developing countries. Additionally, the Center provides University direction for UW-affiliated ambulatory AIDS and STD clinical programs and related training programs in conjunction with the Seattle-King County Department of Public Health<\/a>. The Center facilitates and coordinates development of a growing number of interdisciplinary clinical research and training programs. The Center promotes community outreach activities, linkage of academic and industry scientists, and minority participation in clinical, training, and research programs.<\/p>\n
