AP & IB Credits

AP Score Exemptions

The UW Department of Chemistry's policy on AP credit is as follows:

 

AP-5 Credit for CHEM 142, 152, and 162 (15 credits)
AP-4 Credit for CHEM 142 and 152 (10 credits)
AP-3 Credit for CHEM 142 (5 credits)


Those students with AP scores of 3, 4, or 5 who plan to major in chemistry or biochemistry are strongly encouraged to discuss the option of enrolling in the honors general chemistry sequence, CHEM 145,155 and 165, with the undergraduate chemistry/biochemistry advisors in 303 Bagley Hall.

No credit will be given for AP scores of 2 or lower.

 

IB Score Exemptions

Starting Winter quarter 2012, UW Chemistry will award credit for Chemistry IB Scores as follows:

 

IB-7 Credit for CHEM 142, 152, and 162 (15 credits)
IB-6 Credit for CHEM 142 and 152 (10 credits)
IB-5 Credit for CHEM 142 (5 credits)

 

Since credit for IB Advanced Chemistry is a new policy, current UW students with IB Advanced Chemistry scores of 5, 6 or 7 should contact advisers@chem.washington.edu and the credits will be retroactively posted.

 

Those students with IB scores of 5, 6 or 7 who plan to major in chemistry or biochemistry are strongly encouraged to discuss the option of enrolling in the honors general chemistry sequence, CHEM 145,155 and 165, with the undergraduate chemistry/biochemistry advisers in 303 Bagley Hall.
