I sit on a bench overlooking the canal and
\n<\/span>river of people who<\/span>\u2019<\/span>s Friday nights are only beginning,<\/span><\/p>\n

Just another being among
\n<\/span>the flow of people
\n<\/span>paying pilgrimage to the gelato stand on the bridge<\/p>\n

The murmur of quiet voices broken only by
\n<\/span>the bell of an impatient cyclist or the slow gurgle of
\n<\/span>a boat passing through the canal.<\/span><\/p>\n

The smell of romantic dinners, mixing with
\n<\/span>the beer and cigarettes shared by young and
\n<\/span>old alike.<\/span><\/p>\n

The occasional waft of weed from the
\n<\/span>coffee shop down the road.<\/span><\/p>\n

I am lost<\/span><\/p>\n

And I know.<\/span><\/p>\n

With the first hints of color against
\n<\/span>the cloud bespeckled sky.<\/span><\/p>\n

With each raindrop that reminds me
\n<\/span>I am not dreaming<\/span><\/p>\n

Each mayonnaise coated fry that enters my mouth to
\n<\/span>satisfy my already fulfilled hunger.<\/span><\/p>\n

I know.<\/span><\/p>\n

The occasional Dutch phrase or word
\n<\/span>I can make out
\n<\/span>of the soft chatter drifting through the air.<\/span><\/p>\n

The lights of the restaurants beginning
\n<\/span>to cut their way through the night
\n<\/span>creating blurred replicates
\n<\/span>in the canal<\/span><\/p>\n

I know.<\/span><\/p>\n
