Complete Your Degree – On Your Schedule, Online
The online ECFS degree program is designed for people who want to complete their undergraduate degree while working or fulfilling other commitments. Applicants should already have at least 70 transferable quarter college credits with a minimum GPA of 2.5. All coursework in the program will be completed online using a highly interactive online learning environment that supports participant engagement and the learning community. The curriculum also includes service-learning experiences that can be done at your current job or at a preschool or child care site where you hope to gain employment.
Enter a Growing, High-Demand Field
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, demand for preschool teachers is expected to grow by 25 percent from 2010 to 2020. The UW’s early childhood and family studies program equips students to meet this increasing demand, giving them the training required to enter or advance in a variety of careers, including early childhood education, child care, social and mental health services, parent support and education.
The degree can also serve as a pathway to graduate study in education, child and family studies, social work and other areas.
Utilize Cutting-Edge Research
The ECFS degree is designed to give students the opportunity to study early childhood development, early learning and family studies from a variety of perspectives and then apply what they have learned. The evidence-based curriculum is enhanced with the latest research from the National Center on Quality Teaching and Learning and the Haring Center, which are Head Start-supported efforts directed by the UW College of Education. Courses are taught by top UW faculty and professionals in the field who have deep expertise in promoting effective, high-quality teaching.
