Cruise Description

The 1996 CRETM research cruise took place in the summer, the period of decreasing high to low flow in the Columbia. This trip included intertidal sampling in Cathlmet Bay, in the North Channel of the river, as well as in Young's Bay. In addition to the intetidal sampling, a twelve hour upriver series was conducted, as well as a thirty hour neap seriesat Buoy 39. A remotely operated vehicle (ROV) was used on this trip for high resolution sampling of the ETM.

Vessels

The R/V Robert Gordon Sproul, from Scripps Oceanographic Institute in San Diego, CA, was utilized for sedimentological, geochemical, microbial and ecological investigations.

Geophysical investigations in were conducted from the R/V Clifford Barnes, a research vessel from the University of Washington's School of Oceanography in Seattle, WA.

Coding explanation for sampling series:

Letter Code: U upstream; D downstream; N neap tide; S spring tide; E experimental; CB Cathamlet Bay, R , V , YBE Young's Bay ebb; YBF Young's Bay flood
First Digit: Tidal Series
Second Digit: Sequence in Tidal Series

Example: U11 refers to the first sequence in the first upstream tidal series.
