John Baross is a professor at the University of Washington's School of Oceanography. A faculty member of the Biological Oceanography department, Dr. Baross' research interests include the microbial ecology of the Columbia River estuary, the study of thermophilic microorganisms from volcanic environments and the origin and evolution of life and life on other planets and moons. |

Byron Crump is a post-doctoral scientist at the
Marine Biological Laboratory
in Woods Hole, MA. A recent graduate of the University of Washington's
School of Oceanography, Dr. Crump's dissertation was entitled
"Bacterial Activity and Community Structure in the Columbia
River Estuarine Turbidity Maxima." His research interests
include microbial activity and community development in relation
to biogeochemical processes and cycling and to food web interactions. |
