{"id":658,"date":"2011-08-10T09:22:44","date_gmt":"2011-08-10T16:22:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/csclab\/?p=658"},"modified":"2011-08-10T09:22:44","modified_gmt":"2011-08-10T16:22:44","slug":"professor-lee-quoted-in-consumer-reports-article-on-buying-e-readers-for-use-at-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/csclab\/2011\/08\/professor-lee-quoted-in-consumer-reports-article-on-buying-e-readers-for-use-at-school\/","title":{"rendered":"Professor Lee Quoted in Consumer Reports Article on Buying E-readers for Use at School"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As kids get ready to head back to school, and as college students get ready to move back to their dorms and apartments, Consumer Reports has <a title=\"Back to school: E-readers for students\" href=\"http:\/\/news.consumerreports.org\/electronics\/2011\/08\/back-to-school-is-an-e-book-reader-right-for-you.html\" target=\"_blank\">published an article<\/a> discussing whether an e-reader is the right student purchase to make. \u00a0The exciting part is they base the entire article around <a title=\"Students' use of the Kindle DX\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washington.edu\/news\/articles\/college-students2019-use-of-kindle-dx-points-to-e-reader2019s-role-in-academia\" target=\"_blank\">our study<\/a> of e-reader usage among grad students.<\/p>\n<p>Two things in this article are exciting to me. First, they quote Professor Charlotte Lee making a pretty clear statement about whether e-readers are ready for broad student use. Second, they highlight the phrase &#8220;cognitive mapping,&#8221; which was also called out in the <a title=\"Internet killed Borders?\" href=\"http:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/news\/local\/ct-talk-keilman-dead-books-20110726,0,2277698.story\" target=\"_blank\">Chicago Tribune column<\/a> in late July.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m glad to see our research has such staying power in the media, although there&#8217;s so much more work to be done!
