CSSCR will be providing our same quality consulting, data, and classroom\/computer services in 2024 to our undergraduate, graduate, and staff\/faculty clientele. We are running our drop-in in-person consulting in Savery 119 Monday through Friday from 8AM to 6PM (Friday 5PM) and also providing drop-in virtual services during the day and in the evening (M-Th 6PM-9PM). Access daytime virtual service by sending an email to CSSCR@uw.edu requesting help and in the evening (6PM-9PM) contact us at CSSCR_evening@uw.edu. Of course we do enjoy seeing you in person at Savery 119 or at our main office Savery 110.<\/p>\n

CSSCR Workshop Offerings Winter Quarter 2024<\/strong><\/p>\n ***Workshops are listed in the order of the dates they are delivered***<\/p>\n ******************************* Description: This workshop will teach you how to get started with R using the free integrated development environment called Rstudio. The workshop will cover the basic organization of R and RStudio, where to find good help references, and how to begin a basic analysis. This class is ideal for users who have little or no experience with R.<\/p>\n ****************************** Introduction to Text Analysis using R<\/strong><\/p>\n Description:\u00a0 This workshop will introduce the basics of text analysis in R using the tools from the “tidytext” package. Participants will learn how to manage and clean text data, perform sentiment analysis, and calculate descriptive statistics on a body of text.\u00a0 \u00a0Basic level of using R\/RStudio is assumed.<\/p>\n ****************************** Introduction to Git and GitHub<\/strong><\/p>\n Description: This workshop will teach you how to get started using Git and GitHub. The workshop will cover a) the motivation for using Git\/GitHub, b) the concepts of “remote, local, push and pull”, and c) using R Studio for cloning and pushing within the GitHub framework. No GitHub experience required; some familiarity with R is helpful.<\/p>\n ***************************** Basic Graphics and Data Visualization in R<\/strong><\/p>\n Description: \u00a0 This CSSCR workshop introduces students to ways of producing effect graphs and visualization graphs in R.\u00a0 Topics covered will include basic plotting functions (e.g. histograms, scatter plots), production of multi-panel graphs, and various means of exporting graphs to other presentation packages.\u00a0 A basic user level of R \/ RStudio is assumed.<\/p>\n ****************************** Introduction to SPSS<\/strong><\/p>\n Description: \u00a0 This workshop introduces the SPSS statistical package including reading in data files, as well as basic data management and introductory statistical procedures. Additional topics include computing and recoding variables and selecting and filtering cases.<\/p>\n ***************************** Introduction to R using R Studio<\/strong><\/p>\n Description: This workshop will teach you how to get started with R using the free integrated development environment called Rstudio. This class is ideal for users who have little or no experience with R.<\/p>\n ***************************** Data Wrangling in R<\/strong><\/p>\n Description:\u00a0 This workshop will cover some of R’s useful tools for data management and exploration. Most of class will be devoted to learning Hadley Wickham’s excellent “tidyr” and “dplyr” packages. Attendees are assumed to have basic familiarity with R\/RStudio.<\/p>\n ***************************** Introduction to Using Tableau <\/strong><\/p>\n Description: \u00a0 This is an introductory workshop demonstrating the use of Tableau for analyses and visualization of data. Emphasis will be on using Tableau for mapping\/displaying geographic based data. No prior knowledge of Tableau is assumed.<\/p>\n ***************************** Direct Coding of Audio Data using ATLAS.ti<\/strong><\/p>\n Description: This workshop focuses on the ability to directly code audio data (e.g. interviews) using ATLAS.ti software. Direct coding of the data can make transcripting unnecessary, hence, can be initiated soon after data collection. If time permits, some visualization techniques ( such as Word Clouds) will be introduced. The workshop assumes a base knowledge of ATLAS.ti . While the workshop does not require having access to Atlas-ti it is helpful.
