Welcome to the somewhat lazy days of summer!  <\/p>\n

This is our Summer 2019 CSSCR announcement\/newsletter. Do make note we are in our limited hours mode for the summer quarter—basically we are 9AM to 5PM through the summer months.  Below you will find our listing of workshops for the quarter. As always, registration is open and free to anyone in the UW community. Please let your colleagues, staff, and students know by sharing this newsletter. Individuals can subscribe to the newsletter here<\/a>, and our newsletter archive is found here.<\/a> A reminder we did change our website configuration and location.  If you do have a saved link to us you should insure it is for the new site— http:\/\/csscr.washington.edu\/<\/a><\/p>\n

If you plan on using the computer labs for the Summer Sessions or for the coming Fall Quarter make your reservations now! You can verify your lab reservations and check for space availability on our online calendar<\/a>. Give us a call (206-543-8110<\/a>) or drop us an email at csscr@u.washington.edu<\/a>. The labs can be reserved by faculty in our member departments<\/a>. Students and student groups from our member departments are also welcomed to reserve the labs for workshops, experiments, group projects, and other academic events.<\/p>\n

\nThis class will teach you how to get started
\nwith R using the free integrated development environment called Rstudio. The
\ncourse will cover the basic organization of R and RStudio, where to find good
\nhelp references, and how to begin a basic analysis. This class is ideal for
\nusers who have little or no experience with R.<\/p>\n

Introduction to GIS\/ArcGIS<\/h3>\n

\ninformation systems (GISs) are and how social scientists can benefit from using
\nthem in their research. Students will explore basic GIS concepts through
\nhands-on exercises using ArcGIS, a widely used GIS software package, as well as

Data Wrangling in R<\/h3>\n

This course will cover some of R’s useful
\ntools for data management and exploration. Most of class will be devoted to
\nlearning Hadley Wickham’s excellent “tidyr” and “dplyr”
\npackages. Attendees are assumed to have basic familiarity with R\/Rstudio.<\/p>\n

Introduction to Qualitative Research and ATLAS.ti<\/h3>\n

Description:<\/strong>
\nThis course provides a brief, practical introduction to working in ATLAS.ti,
\ncovering basic terminology and functionality of the program. This will include
\nimporting text documents, coding and annotating documents, and exploring
\nrelationships through analysis and query tools. Time permitting, we may also
\nbriefly discuss best practices for data management. The course assumes no prior
\nuse of Atlas-ti.<\/p>\n

ICPSR Summer Program and Workshop announcements:<\/strong><\/p>\n

ICPSR Summer Program:  <\/strong>Founded in 1963, the ICPSR Summer Program offers rigorous,
\nhands-on training in statistics, quantitative methods, and data analysis for
\nstudents and researchers of all skill levels and backgrounds. Participants in
\nthe ICPSR Summer Program learn how to understand data and gain valuable
\nresearch skills that help them to advance their education and careers. <\/p>\n

From May through August
\n2019, the ICPSR Summer Program will offer more than 80 courses in Ann Arbor,
\nMichigan and other cities around the world. Registration is now open for all
\ncourses.<\/p>\n
