Child Development Clinic

The Child Development Clinic provides developmental assessments and diagnostic services for infants, children, and adolescents up to age 15 years with developmental concerns. We are a Center for Excellence in diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder as well as many other developmental disabilities. Clinic staff members work in interdisciplinary teams, combining expertise to evaluate each child and make recommendations for care. Staff members include professionals from audiology, developmental/behavioral pediatrics, nursing, nutrition, occupational therapy, physical therapy, psychology, social work, and speech and language pathology. Clients are diagnosed with an array of developmental disabilities including intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorders, motor disabilities, learning disabilities, behavioral disorders, communication disorders, and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.

What to Expect

  • Assessment process:  Your child will be seen by 2 or more members of our team. Your child will receive a formal developmental assessment by a team of specialists. After we finish all of our assessments, we ask parents to return to the clinic for a 45-minute conference with the team.

Following the parent conference you will receive a packet of detailed reports from each team member with  a summary of your child’s test results, impressions, recommendations and resources.

  • The length of your visit depends on how many specialists you see. Each appointment lasts from 30 minutes to 3 hours. You may need to come to the clinic on 3 separate days.
  • Payment/Insurance: We accept Medicaid and most commercial insurance plans. Commercial insurance plan requirements vary.  The cost of an assessment will also vary, based on your child’s age, the type of testing, and how many specialists you see. Some commercial insurance plans have preauthorization requirements. We recommend that you contact your insurance carrier to discuss what services will be covered, and what you may owe. We require a referral from your child’s Primary Care Provider for our    services.  Fax the referral to:  UWMC CHDD Developmental Specialty Clinics, 206.598.7815
  • E-Care  is the confidential medical record system used for CHDD Specialty Clinics.  You can view upcoming appointments, lab results, and other visit information online.  Parents or guardians of children may sign up for eCare access to their children’s online health records. You can contact your child’s clinic for more information, or sign up in person when you check in for your child’s appointment.
