They\u2019re part of going to work, trying to provide. They\u2019re part of living with soil-transmitted helminths (STH) \u2014 more commonly known as intestinal worms \u2014 inhabiting victims\u2019 bellies, sapping their nutrients, and stunting their physical and cognitive development.<\/p>\n<p>In countries where the disease is prevalent, soil-transmitted helminths have long been a public health problem and a human rights issue \u2014 and the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/sph.washington.edu\/\">UW School of Public Health<\/a>\u00a0is doing something about it. Researchers are playing a leading role in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nhm.ac.uk\/our-science\/our-work\/sustainability\/deworm3.html\">DeWorm3<\/a>, a project coordinated by the Natural History Museum in London and funded by the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gatesfoundation.org\/\">Bill &amp; Melinda Gates Foundation<\/a>. DeWorm3 is providing the platform for one of the largest implementation science projects in the field to date. Its core mission? To interrupt the transmission of intestinal worms.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"container\">\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-10 col-md-offset-1 copy transparent\">\n<p>It\u2019s here in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/globalhealth.washington.edu\/\">Department of Global Health<\/a>, in partnership with the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.uwmedicine.org\/\">School of Medicine<\/a>, that the first-ever Ph.D. program in metrics and implementation science is transforming the way people approach population health to improve lives.
