The WHO estimates that one-quarter of the world\u2019s population\u00a0is currently infected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"preFlex flexIn\">DeWorm3 is a five-year\u00a0surveillance study, examining\u00a0the\u00a0effectiveness of a\u00a0mass-drug administration\u00a0(MDA)\u00a0protocol\u00a0to interrupt\u00a0STH\u00a0transmission\u00a0among affected populations in India, Benin, and Malawi.<\/p>\n<p class=\"preFlex flexIn\"><strong>Quantigen and its DeWorm3 collaborators have validated a DNA isolation procedure and a high-throughput, lyophilized, multiplex qPCR-based assay specific to four STH species.<\/strong> We have also created a comprehensive set of standard operating procedures and a rigorous proficiency testing program, which together are helping Quantigen to deploy our test into international partner laboratories.<\/p>\n<p class=\"preFlex flexIn\"><strong>Future plans at Quantigen:<\/strong> Over the study\u2019s duration, our lab will test approximately 200,000 pre- and post-treatment stool samples for STH infection; in this way, study monitors can ensure that incidence levels following multiple rounds of MDA fall below the threshold (approx. 2%) at which future lateral transmission should be seen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"preFlex flexIn\">In addition, we will perform a clinical study to validate the STH test as a patient diagnostic \u2013 one with much higher sensitivity than the current, microscopy-based standard of care.<\/p>\n<p>Read the full story on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quantigen.com\/news-insights\/deworm3\">Quantigen News.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Read the full story on Quantigen News.
