\nThe services of the NIH-supported Diabetes Research Center Biomedical Research Cores are available to support diabetes related research for investigators that have Diabetes Research Center affiliate status. Diabetes Research Center affiliates are also able to take advantage of various funding opportunities<\/a> for themselves and their trainees.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

<\/span><\/i> How can I become a Diabetes Research Center Affiliate?<\/a><\/h3>

\nFaculty investigators at the University of Washington or affiliated institutions in the Greater Seattle area with peer-reviewed funding in diabetes-related research are eligible to become Diabetes Research Center affiliates<\/a>. Check with the Diabetes Research Center Administrative Core office<\/a> if you are uncertain about your eligibility status. \nTo ensure continued success and future funding of the Diabetes Research Center, it is critical for Diabetes Research Center affiliates to acknowledge Diabetes Research Center support in manuscripts. If the Diabetes Research Center has supported your research in any way, please please cite this support as follows:<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/i> How do I use a Diabetes Research Center Biomedical Research Core?<\/a><\/h3>

\nResearchers that use the services of a Diabetes Research Center Biomedical Core must be Diabetes Research Center affiliates<\/a>. Affiliates should contact a core director to discuss their needs and the prospective costs of core services for their project. You will also need to provide an account for invoicing of chargeback fees. More information on each of the Biomedical Cores is available at their respective web pages.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

<\/span><\/i> Who is eligible to receive a pilot and feasibility research grant from the Diabetes Research Center?<\/a><\/h3>
\n

\nNIH requires that recipients of Diabetes Research Center P&F Research awards have a faculty appointment at the University of Washington. Research scientists, residents, fellows, and students are not eligible. The defining criterion is that applicants must be eligible to be the Principal Investigator on an NIH grant. Normally this means at least an Acting Instructor appointment in most departments. Check with your department head and with the Diabetes Research Center Administrative Core<\/a> if you are uncertain about your eligibility status. \nThe Diabetes Research Center administers the University of Washington-sponsored New Investigator Research Award. Yes, the Diabetes Research Center jointly sponsors the Diabetes and Metabolism Enrichment Program, together with the UW Diabetes Institute<\/a>\u00a0and Pacific Northwest Diabetes Research Institute<\/a>. The Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason<\/a> and the UW Cystic Fibrosis Research and Translation Center<\/a> also participate in this program. <\/span><\/i> How are the speakers and topics for the Seminar Series & Symposia chosen? May I suggest speakers or topics for the Diabetes Research Center Enrichment Program?<\/a><\/h3>

\nEach year a message is sent to all Diabetes Research Center Affiliates asking them if they would like to recommend speakers for the Diabetes and Metabolism Seminar Series and Symposia<\/a>. The recommendations that we receive are discussed by the seminar series\u2019 Program Committee, and based on this input, a program is chosen that reflects the Diabetes Research Center Research Bases, together with the research bases of the other participating centers, in an equitable manner.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

\nThis Diabetes Research Center website is designed primarily for researchers but all visitors are welcome to peruse it to learn about diabetes research at the University of Washington and affiliated institutions in the Greater Seattle area.
