About the DRS Academic Coaching program

How can an Academic Coach assist my student?

Each student has different needs, however Coaches most often assist with providing organization, motivation, goal-setting, reflection, self-regulation, time management, study skills, outlining and insight into learning strengths. Coaches can assist greatly with providing structure and accountability.

Does my daughter or son need to have a documented disability to utilize the Coaching service?

Yes. Students have to be registered and connected to the office. Students can learn about getting started with DRS by reviewing our Getting Started webpage or contacting us.

How does my student get set up with an Academic Coach?

DRS students can be referred to academic coaching by their Counseling Coordinator based on need and space. Students can learn about getting started with DRS by reviewing our Getting Started webpage or contacting us.

How long can my student utilize an Academic Coach?

A student have access to DRS Academic Coaching through their time at the UW. Undergraduates can meet with a Coach four times during each academic quarter, graduate & professional student will likely have a more individualized meeting schedule.

Do Coaches work with graduate and professional school students?

Yes.

Is there a special university admissions process for students who learn differently?

No. All students applying to the university go through the same process. In addition to this no student is required to disclose their status as an individual with a disability. However they are responsible for requesting services from DRS if they need or want them.

DRS contact information is (206) 543-8924, uwdrs@uw.edu, or disability.uw.edu, and we are open Monday – Friday, 8:30AM-5:00PM with daily drop-in hours listed on our homepage.
