At the end of Module 9, you will be able to:
In this module, we will bring what we have learned so far to focus on how to use data to tell a compelling story. What is the most important and relevant information to share? What is the most effective way to share that information?
Pre-test (10 minutes)
Part 1: Introduction (15 minutes)
Part 2: Telling a Story With Data (30 minutes)
Part 3: Making Data Work for Us (40 minutes)
Part 4: Content & Visual Aids (30 minutes)
Part 5A: Presentation Design & Skills (15 minutes)
Using what you’ve learned about good slide design practices, create a slide presentation for Sister Sinah.
If you don’t have access to PowerPoint, Google Slides (at https://docs.google.com/presentation) is available for free (must log in with gmail).
Feel free to use a template that comes with the software or design your own. To use the graphics shown here, click the download button for each image or right click with the mouse button on the thumbnail image and save to your computer.
Remember, Sister Sinah has only 5 minutes to give her talk to the health directors, so she won’t be able to show all the graphics she’s made. You’ll be able to compare your presentation with Sister Sinah’s at the end of part 5B.
Part 5B: Presentation Design & Skills (15 minutes)
In this module, our goal was to learn how to use data to tell a compelling story.
In Part 2, we learned how planning and gaining support for a new health programme requires presenting strong, relevant information in a memorable way. We can think of this as telling a story with data.
In Part 3, we talked about how data informs presentation opportunities, and how these should be adapted to our audience.
Finally, in Parts 4 and 5 we discussed various ways to develop an effective presentation, and several important techniques to remember when delivering a presentation.
