A secondary aim of this award is to expand the breadth of scientific questions addressed in the EFGH consortium by leveraging EFGH data, samples, and\/or infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Program benefits include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A $20,000 to $30,000 seed grant aimed to fund preliminary data collection for future grant applications<\/li>\n<li>A 12-month non-residential Affiliate Scientist position within the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.globalwach.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">University of Washington (UW)\u2019s Global Center for Woman, Adolescent, and Child Health (Global WACh)<\/a><\/li>\n<li>An invited virtual lecture at the UW<\/li>\n<li>Optional participation in the EFGH Early Career Peer Mentorship Cohort for structured mentorship and training in data analysis and manuscript-writing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"uw-accordion-shortcode\">\n<div class=\"js-accordion\" data-accordion-prefix-classes=\"uw-accordion-shortcode\">\n<div class=\"js-accordion__panel\" >\n<h2 class=\"js-accordion__header\">Applicant Eligibility<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>An LMIC national based at an EFGH partner institution<\/li>\n<li>Be actively participating in the EFGH consortium<\/li>\n<li>Be enrolled in, or within 5 years of graduation from, a PhD, Master\u2019s program, or medical degree program<\/li>\n<li>Have a bachelor\u2019s degree in a public health-related field, including nursing, medicine, microbiology<\/li>\n<li>Have a project mentor based in LMIC with research experience in the field of interest<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Applicants are only allowed to submit one application to this program per cycle. To ensure a strong commitment from the local EFGH team, we encourage submissions by no more than two applications per EFGH country site.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"js-accordion__panel\" >\n<h2 class=\"js-accordion__header\">Project Eligibility<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Research projects must relate to pediatric enteric diseases and either:\n<ul>\n<li>utilize existing EFGH samples or data<\/li>\n<li>propose collecting new samples or data within EFGH<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Have ethical review board approval (not required for submission)<\/li>\n<li>Project duration 1 year (January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2023)<\/li>\n<li>Not currently leading an EFGH sub-study<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"js-accordion__panel\" >\n<h2 class=\"js-accordion__header\">Budget Guidelines<\/h2>\n<p>The total direct costs must not exceed $20,000-$30,000 USD. No indirect costs will be provided. Funds may be used for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Personnel costs (Note: Indirect costs required by institutions will need to be included in total requested amount (or waived)).<\/li>\n<li>Supplies and equipment itemized by categories, such as medical supplies, chemicals, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Other expenses, such as communication expenses, printing, shipment costs, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"js-accordion__panel\" >\n<h2 class=\"js-accordion__header\">Application and Submission Guidelines<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Please send the following, via Word document or PDF, to <a href=\"mailto:risingstars@uw.edu\">risingstars@uw.edu<\/a> by September 15, 2023 at 11:59 AM PST.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Completed application cover page<\/li>\n<li>A description of the applicant\u2019s previous research experience and intended career pathway (1 page max)<\/li>\n<li>A research plan, that includes a brief background, project aims, and approach (2 pages max)<\/li>\n<li>A Curriculum Vitae (including bibliography)<\/li>\n<li>A letter of support from the applicant\u2019s primary mentor. Strong letters should detail the candidate\u2019s commitment to research and evidence that the applicant\u2019s mentor and institution are committed to supporting this candidate<\/li>\n<li>A letter of support from the EFGH site PI<\/li>\n<li>Budget on the provided template (Note: Indirect costs required by institutions will need to be included in the total requested amount (or waived). EFGH and the Bill &amp; Melinda Gates Foundation are engaging Nyanja Health Research Institute as an optional pre-submission language and scientific communication support resource for applicants.
