Columbia Basin Health Association staffs 4 modern, comprehensive clinics in the region. Combined, in 2015, all four clinics had over 160,000 out-patient visits. Wahluke Family Clinic is located in Mattawa, WA 35.01 miles west of Othello, with a population of approximately 4,579. The Connell Family Clinic is located 23.57 miles southeast of Othello, with a population of approximately 5,388. The beautiful Othello Community Hospital has 25 inpatient beds with 1,280 annual admissions, approximately 500-600 deliveries, and over 7,000 emergency department visits.

Othello is a rural community in Central Washington with a population of approximately 7,800 people. In 2016, Columbia Basin Health Association had approximately 34,493 patients, of which 48% were male and 52% were female. CBHA’s patients are 76% Hispanic or Latino and 19% are White. Over 59% of our patients are best served in a language other than English.
Students will participate in hospital on-call visits. Including obstetrical care. An emergency department experience will occur when the preceptor is on-call with a student.
Students will participate in a wide variety of patient care including outpatient and preventative care. Students will also participate in assessing for chronic health conditions, conducting health maintenance visits, obstetrical care and assisting with minor outpatient and surgical procedures. Other opportunities may include shadowing mental health professionals and offering health screenings for children (vision, hearing, anemia, lead and tuberculosis). In addition, students may learn about other programs of the clinics such as osteoporosis care for women and comprehensive care for the elderly. The Othello site offers monthly seminars and staff meetings on specific subjects including 'high-risk care' grand rounds. Teleconferences and webinars are also available to enhance the student's experience. Each student will be given feedback through formal and non-formal feedback process.
A one bedroom apartment will be provided. Spouses and partners are welcome. No pets. A car is required.
