Vera Okolo

Vera Okolo graduated from Mountlake Terrace High School in Seattle, WA in 2015. During high school she actively participated in the Key Club, Black Student Union and National Honor Society. She served as an intern at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and volunteered at her local library.

Research Interests

As a GenOM ALVA intern during the summer of 2015, Vera worked in Armburst Lab. Her project focused on observing the relationship between diatoms (a type of phytoplankton) and their associated bacteria (those within each diatoms' bacterial communities). The focus was on the secretion of a certain hormone from one particular bacterium that facilitates growth in the diatom.

Vera's will continue working in the Armburst Lab.
