Research Interests

As a GenOM ALVA intern during the summer of 2015, Ariana worked in the Mefford Lab. Her project was to validate the presence and inheritance of genetic mutations associated with epileptic encephalopathy, which had been previously found using next-generation sequencing. Mutations were validated through a process that included primer design, PCR, gel electrophoresis, Sanger sequencing, and sequence analysis. The data obtained will be used to enhance current knowledge of epileptic encephalopathy and to further the development of potential treatment.

Ariana will continue research in the Mefford Lab. She also plans on attending medical school upon completion of her Bachelor’s Degree.
