About the podcast

Baab-e-Ghazal is a podcast about the history of Urdu ghazal. The podcast features episodes on history, poetics and poets of Urdu ghazal. The episodes will cover history of Urdu poetry especially ghazal in chronological order. It includes discussion with professors, Urdu poets and students of Urdu literature from North America. The Baab-e-Ghazal podcast is produced and hosted by Jameel Ahmad. Part of the podcast is supported by NEH grant during summer 2024.

About the host

Prof. Jameel Ahmad

Jameel Ahmad is a Teaching Professor in the department of Asian Languages and Literature at the University of Washington, Seattle. He received his Ph.D. from Center of Indian Languages at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Delhi. He teaches Urdu at the University of Washington and in summer at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. His interest lies in language pedagogy, Urdu poetry, its history, poetics and translation.
